Why are you not writing?

You’re reading this article right now, which means you must be interested in writing. Perhaps you do write often. Perhaps you have not started writing but want to start soon. Perhaps you write infrequently, wishing you could write more often.

Depending on the day, I usually have myriad answers when I ask myself the question of why am I not writing? I have a long list of reasons why I often don’t write as much as I’d like.

Maybe your list sounds similar:

  • I’m too tired.
  • It’s been a long and busy day.
  • My full-time job has taken all of my brainpower, and I have nothing left to give to writing.
  • I have writer’s block.
  • I cannot come up with article ideas.
  • I cannot formulate my thoughts concisely.
  • I wonder if it’s worth writing something that only a few people will read.
  • I wonder if there are better uses of my time.

We all have commitments and responsibilities that keep us from writing. Those excuses are common.
